I have heard that many of his fights were fixed. That never made any sense to me. Why build up such a man? How could he be sold to the public? What is your take on that.

Galento was straight-up rough-'n-tumble BADASS to the bone, tm. He wasn't a whackadoodle. Jackson was 100% bananas. If you looked in his eyes, you saw bluebirds.

Funny man, I can't quite figure how you view Bobick in these categories? His style was fairly orthodox, he trained very hard usually (he did appear soft around the middle in the Norton fight) and growing up in Minnesota where he lived I had never come across any unusual antics about him.

Agree, t, Bobick was a human. Jackson was a marionette from Area 52.

jg, how i nremember Hurricane Jackson,,,I saw him fight a couple oftimes at Eastern Pkwy Arena, and would see him at Stillmans gym where Whitey Bimstein would scratch his head in frustration...When Jackson was at Stillmans everyone would watch him box...He developed a punch never seen before or since called the two hand at the same time punch...He vwould seem insulted if a punch missed him...He was impervious to punishment, and did defeat a lot of good boxers, like Rex Layne, Dan Bucceroni, Clkarence Henry etc...He came from Rockaway, NY, and his favorite sport was shooting rats...On of a kind...b.b.

All I can do when I think of Jackson is shake my head, J. Some days he showed up at Stillmans wearing a horse's bridle.

I'd been to Stillman's earlier, J, but started to train there in '46. Left in '55 to train at Angelo Dundee's 5th St. Gym in Miami.

that's incredible, to have been around in that era and to have seen those boxers in person...to TRAIN with those boxers in person

in terms of the gym, which fighter was the most impressive in training?

I've heard those rumors, too, OF. Only thing I can figure is: He was SO BAD no one in their wildest dreams would've picked him to beat some of those BIG NAMES. Maybe the boys made a killing on big odds. But, I have no inside info, just talkin' out loud.

Jackson was an embarrassment to every amateur an pro in Stillman's. If Jackson wasn't being looked after by "Whitey" Bimstein (which astonished me), I'm sure Stillman would have thrown him out.

Stillman would sit in his raised chair next to ring # 2 'n shake his head in disbelief watching Jackson's version of sparring, 'n keep repeating: "DISGRACEFUL!" "DISGRACEFUL!"
