Tommy Morrison-Tim Tomashek was pretty bizarre.

Morrison was defending his WBO title against Mike Williams, the same fighter he knocked out in Rocky V to win the title, who refused to leave the dressing room. That´s pretty strange on two counts but Tomashek who was in the crowd agrees to take the fight.

    Did pretty well considering.

The Riot in Germany when Axel Shulz lost a 12-round decision to Frans Botha for the vacant IBF title.

Then Botha getting stripped and becoming the first heavyweight to lose his title after a failed steroid test.

Even the idea of Fury V Ngannou made little sense.

The first one Sullivan v Charles Mitchell probably still takes the cake.

Bob Fitzsimmons had some crazy stories:

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bob_Fitzsimmons

Then, on 14 January 1891, in New Orleans, he won his first world title from Jack (Nonpareil) Dempsey.[15][16] Fitzsimmons knocked out Dempsey (from whom the later Jack Dempsey took his name) in the 13th round to become the World Middleweight Champion. Fitzsimmons knocked Dempsey down at least 13 times and by the finish left him in such a pitiable condition that he begged him to quit. Since Dempsey would not do so, Fitzsimmons knocked him out and then carried him to his corner. On 22 July, police broke off his fight with Jim Hall after he had knocked Hall down several times.

Came here to mention this fight, it’s the first that came to mind. Tomashek was literally eating a hot dog when approached to step in to fight Morrison, crazy! Hahahaha. And yeah, he actually didn’t do too bad at all considering the circumstances.

I think Roman actually was ranked. There been has far worse mismatches than that one in HW history.

He wasn't that bad, more than that the other guys were good. He broke the top 10 and beat Smith, so he was no club fighter. More fringe contender quality, just like Roman, but just levels below Holmes and Tyson.

Bowe vs Golota weren't title fights, but definitely bizarre. The HW division sure was a scene in the 90's.

Yeah..but when you see the fight it was like....ok why is he in the ring with Foreman? lmao...

He was a good fighter but ...for regional belts like that...USBA or NABF maybe..not for a world title fight. .

Frazier and Norton just did a bit better. So it's not like you needed to be a very low level fighter to be run over by Foreman at that time.

I agree, Marvis wasn't that bad. I thought very little of him but somehow he beat some guys I thought he had no chance against. How Bonecrusher Smith let Marvis beat him is still a mystery

Boxers who will fight anywhere, at anytime, are some of the guys you have to be the most wary about. Names like Weaver and Jaco come to mind.
