Are there any statistics over whom has the most body shot knockouts of all time? Easy to throw out statistics like Archie Moore having the most knockouts of all time, or Stribling.. But what about this facet of the sport? Whether its a single shot or accumulation to the body. Thoughts?
Start with the usual ATG suspects. Fitz, Jeff, Langford, Dempsey, Zale, Duran, Arguello, Palomino, and proceed from there. Mexicans are stereotyped for the hook to the liver, suggesting names like Zarate and Zamora. Wilfredo Gomez was a murderous body puncher. For all of Joe Frazier's attacking to the body, I only saw him drop Quarry to a knee with a body shot, and didn't see him force a stoppage with body punching alone the way Palomino did in winning the WBC WW belt from Stracey.
I can only assume the vast majority of Yuh Myung Woo's stoppages came from body shots, as he barely threw anything to head with conviction...by all accounts.
I really cant see anyone beating Fitzsimmons in this regard, although i his solar plexus finish off punch that layed many a great fighter out was in fact a Solarplexus shift hook from what i can work out., so maybe it doesnt quite qualify.
Im surprised no one has mentioned Chavez the best bodypuncher in the last 30 years in my opinion. Also with all the kos he had most of his stoppages were a result of him breaking the body down.
Beat me to it. Skinny was the most punishing body puncher. His left rip to the body was almost perfect.
I'd heard a statistic thrown around here that he knocked out something like 75% of his opponents via body work.
