Morrison was an underrated body puncher. We all know what Mercer said happened to him. Also , Ward vs Kovalev II. A poor ending , but it had legit body shots throughout ,it was good showing of what beating a guy to exhaustion looks like. Kovalev also a very good jabber to the body. I believe he stopped Agnew with a spearing jab to the gut.
I disagree vociferously. If after the Pedroza fight Laporte didnt have his cup under his armpits and goes into survivor mode he gets stopped by Gomez and McGuigan. Having a cup that huge and high is cheating to avoid the body shots. If a fighter fought back hard, juan stopped trying. He lost to every high level fighter he fought and the Lockridge KO was an abberation. He never came close to being that puncher again. LaPorte, much like Lockridge was really just a glorified journeyman clubfighter. Nothing more. One who backed down vs stout opposition.
Never gets talked about, but Mcgirt said nobody hurt him to the body like his second fight with Whitaker. Whitaker could dig to the body.
LOL These two guys gave JC Chavez his two toughest fights at 130 lbs. Chavez barely scraped by LaPorte. Lockridge gave Pedroza a very close fight in their first fight and was competitive in the second fight. LaPorte fought toe to toe with Chavez. He never stopped trying. He won the 12th round in my eyes. He didn't quit. He staggered Azumah Nelson and fought hard to the end. They fought extremely elite opposition. Lockridge beat Boza-Edwards and Roger Mayweather. LaPorte beat Lockridge and Rueben Castillo. You need to reassess your definition of "glorified jouneyman clubfighter." Actually, I think you just made up the term. Lockridge and LaPorte were way above "Journeyman." Lockridge held a version of the 130 lb title twice and Laporte held a version of the 126 title. It's outrageous to claim that LaPorte only lasted the distance against Gomez and McGuigan becaue of the height of his trunks. LOL.
Arguello against Ganigan. Damn. Alexis looked as if he'd almost cut Ganigan in half with some of those devilish body shots, particularly in the closing salvo. Come to think of it, Arguello's body work against Boza-Edwards was pretty gnarly, too. More of a strategic body punching display rather than a grizzly, devastating one, but Buchanan against Watt might be worth a mention as well. Buchanan turned the momentum of that fight with some exquisite body punching after the middle rounds.
Of course I made it up! BUT YOU CAN USE IT IF U LIKE IT. AFTER ALL, WE ARE NOT COMMUNISTS. OR MICHAEL BUFFER. But my meaning is clear. They, were NOT special. Win some, lose some guys. And yes, Laportes wader cup saved his ass against great body punching Gomez and McGuigan. Sorry, but when the going got tough, juan got going alright, right out da door.
Yes he could. Pernell punched to the body with authority. I recall him scoring some knockdowns with bodypunches.
The 11th round of the Chavez-Rosario fight I mean Chavez's body shots in that round sounded like firecrackers
Chavez vs Taylor and Camacho were both masterclasses of slowing fast fighters down with body punching.
