How good is it to see two great, great fighters in the ring together. Two of the best lightweights you'll see (Jack less so obviously). One of the hardest punchers against one of the toughest fighters. It just doesn't happen often enough anymore.

And yes - very, very brutal at the end. Ridiculous that it wasn't stopped earlier. And after a beating like that, Jack went on to have 4 fights in the next 6 months. And he won them all! They bred them tough back then!

Back in those days the Ref would let you take a real beating.

I seen one, ages ago, on here that I think was very similar to that. But it was 2 heavies. One of them lying back on the ropes with the other bashing him up. He looks to the ref who tells him to carry on, so he hits him again and the ref jumps in. Absolutely savage, probably worse than that.

Apologies for not knowing the names.

Just look at the first round of Dempsey-Willard. Countless broken bones, several knockdowns, Willard couldn't defend himself let alone throw a punch... it was sheer brutality, yet the fight went another two rounds. Ridiculous!

    It's not this is it?

Actually it won't be, he doesn't look to the ref. Savage nonetheless. Poor Tommy Gunn.

The first KO that came to my mind was the Beau Jack Ike Williams fight. Morrison and Mercer was definitly incompetent refereeing in this day and age. That ref never reffed again after that debacle. Arturo Gatti Joey Gamanche should get an honourable mention.
