Yes paper champs,Gatti was a paper champ,Oscar was a paper champ and nowadays everybody beats Zab.Plus you didn't answer the question in the post,is it cuz you don't have a genuine answer or because of respect for the true and fans loved FIGHTERS mentioned.

You make a great point. It's almost impossible to be a star in the sport of boxing unless you are carefully managed. Top Rank does an excellent job of developing their fighters. The match maker over there makes sure to match up their young stars with a variety of different styles early in their career. Doing so allows the fighter to be ready for anything he sees in the ring, no surprises. The thread starter mentioned Mayweather. If you look at Mayweather's career, he's faced pretty much every type of fighter. He's fought boxers, punchers, swarmers, tall guys, short guys, dirty fighters, body punchers, big hitters, lefites, he's seen it all. The only exception would probably be a really good defensive fighter.

As a result, Mayweather can adapt to anyone he faces. He can now pick opponents based off of public demand and financial reward. He doesn't have to worry about anyone's fighting style. There are plenty of talented fighters who failed because of poor management. They were rushed or ran into someone who possesed a style they couldn't deal with.

Why is Amir Khan on the list?, the man is still new and rising, do you expect him to have title shots in his first 10 fights as a professional?

His management can clearly see flaws and are keeping him active to adjust and improve. As a prospect he shouldn't even be criticised yet.

Umm, there was Vivian Harris... I don't remember who else was in that division with belts at the time... Gatti was WBC, Zoo was IBF, HArris was WBA and I think Cotto was WBO.. A green Cotto would have been better than a unknown Bruseles... Even a David Diaz fight would have been ehh ok... Actually Mayweather/Diaz would of been like Mayweather/Chavez... I wouldn't have mind watching that fight... lol...

But back to the topic at hand...

umm........ Sergio Mora comes to mind... Escapes with a win over Ishe... narrowly escapes with wins over Manfredo... turns down a fight with Jermain Taylor because of location and instead fights Rito Ravioli.. and Archak Shark Attack whos more like a mosquito bite these days.... and even when he fought em... So after Winky moves up, Ouma is non existant, guys like Karmazin and Powell are knocked out of the equation, Mora out of nowhere decides to be a Jr Middleweight... Atleast Manfredo went on to fight respectable fighters...

    Who else is there........

    Floyd Mayweather Post-Corley......

To a certain degree, Chris Arreola.... I might get some heat for this... But if you look at his resume... It's full of below average journeymen, damaged prospects.... while yeah he has 2 good wins over decent prospects with a pulse... but c'mon... Zakeem Graham or watever his last name was... Malcolm Tann, the Showstopper... his show was stopped since he fought Jenkins... Damian Norris.... a tall stick who should stay at Cruiserweight... He needs to be in there with a guy like Friday or even a Robert Hawkins.. Guys who are more than likely gonna be around the whole fight.... and in the case of Friday, could pull off the upset..

who else is there.... I know that there's a european fighter out there for me to mention....

Zsolt Erdei~?? To a degree its not all his fault... almost everytime I look at the rankings in the WBO, Roy Jones is his #1 contender... Still no excuse for a world champion, top 5 fighter in the LH dvision to be fighting fighters who aren't even top 20... Danny Santiago~!?!?! that's all I gotta say about that...

Again you discredit Floyd like its his fault Zoo was contracted to Showtime.

Judah was coming off a loss to Baldomir. That's not as bad as Cotto who recieves a bunch of credit for beating Judah who was coming off 2 losses and a year of inactivity.

Baldomir wasn't a paper champion. He was the Lineal Champion.

Cotto receives credit against Judah because he wasn't regarded as the P4P number one at the time, and he dominated/stopped Judah, which the exception of being stunned a couple of times early. Floyd adjusted to Judah and got the UD, but lost more rounds, and wasn't as impressive in his victory. He might have stopped Zab had Zab not pulled his fouling act but we'll never know.

Baldomir was the Lineal Champion, but everyone knew that it was merely a product of good timing that he had the belt at all, which is why nobody watched Floyd vs Baldo. Everyone knew how overmatched Baldomir was from the get-go. And since then, Baldomir has continued to prove how lucky he was, getting creamed by Vernon Forrest, and getting a gift decision against a journeyman fighter that Alfonso Gomez(who Cotto easily beat) annihilated in four rounds.

    Jermain Taylor:
I'd have said that Jermaine Taylor was one of the more poorly managed fighters. To properly protect a fighter it is not enough to merely plop down lower weight opponents he should be able to easily beat. ( and Winky doesn't fall in this category) You need opponents that makes him look good as well. Everyone knows that Spinks makes his opponents look bad and everyone knew that Taylor was not an aggressive fighter. A sticker was all but guaranteed. ( Though I doubt anyone thought it would turn out that bad ) The price Taylor paid for that fight is that he lost all room to manuever and was pretty much forced to fight Pavlik.

    David Reid and Fernando Vargas.

The management were careful to destroy them as quickly as possible.

How was DLH considered the best the division had ? He was 1-1 @154 since 03 and his loss came at the hands of Sugar who Floyd shouldve faced! Saying that with Sugar Shane and Winky in the division at the time is a stretch. Granted Winky couldnt sell out a high school gym but everyone knows Floyd wanted nothing to do with Sugar at any time in any division. Its ok to like a fighter but dont let it leave you blind to reality.

Neither Shane nor Winky were at 154 during that time.

Floyd tried to fight Shane when Floyd was at 130, 140, and 147.

Cotto received credit just like Clottey got for ttheir Judah wins, and maybe Floyd's win was better but that puts Baldomir even better cuz he beat him in january
