Just realised after making the thread that he takes this easy atsch . He managed to charm non-boxing fans into boxing.
If by "charm" you mean "made the entire country hate him", then sure. It's still good for ratings though. He's not really more charismatic than a lot of other fighters though, it's just so unexpected from a Japanese fighter, where he's basically considered to be the rudest/brashest man alive. All-time, it has to be Ali. Right now, probably Mayorga, even if it's negative charisma.
All-time? Gotta go with Ali. In recent years, I'm not really sure. I think DLH is pretty charismatic... As far as boxers that won me over with charisma, i was NOT a Sam Soliman fan when this series of the Contender started, but I'm a big fan now :good Such a likeable guy, full of team spirit and pride, but not an ******* like alot of the jerks on the show.
He certainly got a ton of flack after the close Landeta decision, but he beat the guy decisively in the rematch and I think he will rebuild his popularity. Before the controversy the guy was pulling huge numbers in Japan. Even drawing in non-fight fans. I think that takes a certain degree of charisma, and having watched his fights their is a certain rough charm about him that people could find appealing.
Don't know how anyone could not like Soliman, he seems so genuine about everything. I really want him to do well. I guess Hatton is pretty charismatic, usually hes pretty respectful and made some quality calls against Mayweather.
