I am a big Ali fan and think hes the greatest Heavy of all time, however he does not come to mind when i think of complete fighters. He relied so much on his natural athleticism and speed, and technically did so many wrong things.
When i think of Complete fighters, you have to do everything right technique wise and also be able to punch and have a chin.

Duran could fight off the back foot for a whole fight?

When did Lopez show a top notch inside game, for instance? Just to begin with.

Why would he do that? Its not his style at all.

But he has on several occasions throughout his career given ground in fights and played the counter puncher role during spells.

DeJesus III, Moore, Barkley, Thompson probably many more. Just his preferred way of doing things was on the front foot and very seldom was he prevented from fighting that fight.

Although personally I believe the answer is an impossible task to discover, I have always thought of Alexis Arguello as a very complete fighter!

If cant win a fight fighting off the back foot with just a jab how do you know he's complete? Could he stick and move? If he couldnt he's not the complete fighter.

I don't think there's any doubt that he's in the top 15 overall in terms of being complete. And I have to agree about the KO power.

My pick for most complete would have to be Sugar Ray Robinson, hands down.

Post 1960, so I don't know if we could include Robinson.

My five for complete would be (in their prime)

    Marvin Hagler
    Ray Leonard
    Mike Tyson
    Ricardo Lopez
    Roberto Duran

Which I think have all been mentioned before.

I can't put Whitaker because of lack of power
no Chavez, because of speed issues
    No Hearns, because no chin
    No Arguello, no head movement

    My honorable mention would be
    Jose Napoles
    Azumah Nelson
    Emile Griffith
    Shane Mosely
    Floyd Mayweather

    Keith
