i suppose that is something he didn't exhibit all that often. perhaps both alvarez fights but you're right, he certainly wasn't known for it and it wasn't his strongest attribute to be sure. it may be a tribute to his ring generalship that he never really fought outside his comfort level or distance but still, he may well have lacked an inside game
See this is where this logic falls down for me. Your basically saying he would have to go against his preferred style to become complete for you. Meaning he would have be the inferior at controlling the fight. I would think thats takes away from his completeness rather then adds to it. As I have already said Roberto gave ground and fought defensively in many fights but it was generally for short amounts of time just to reset or when he was coasting. For reference Mayweather more or less did the same thing...He generally fought the way he preferred only going against that when he either hopelessly outclassed his opponent or they were fighting more defensive then he was. Turning aggressive to defensive is a lot different from turning defensive to aggressive. May I just add that Duran did show some pretty cute defensive moves and was mostly jabbing against Hagler in his losing effort.
Though I think its more of the former...he was just that good and no one forced him to waver from his preferred style...He did have some tough times against Alvarez. I do feel that would have been the ***** in his armour because he was a fairly rangy guy for those weights. And thats why I feel there is at least one man who beats him under fly...Jung- Koo Chang.
If he couldnt do it, then he's not complete. For instance Mayweather, shown an ability to fight as a pressure fighter, on inside, on the outside, or control the fight with his jab. Now Duran may have been so superior in a couple areas that he was the better fighter, doesnt make him more complete. Could Duran when a fight boxing and sticking the jab like say HEarns could? Then he's not complete. He may be overwhelmingly strong in a few areas but he couldnt do everything. Again this is not a dig at Duran. But Ali was probably the 2nd greatest fighter to ever live, but was he close to complete? Hell no. Watch a fighter like Ray Robinson, he literally did everything but maybe turn Southpaw. No doubt. Duran had amazing head movement, and rolled punches better then probably any slick boxer that ever lived. Hell watch how he handled Barkely compared to Hearns. But still if he couldnt win a fight of the end of a jab I wouldnt call him complete. Complete to me would be great at all styles. Just my 2 cents.
dude, fleaman turned me on to him in the classic forum. all i can say is "wow!". pressure, power and ferocity that was effective and brilliant to watch. an absolute beast with a brutal style: if he made lopez fight his fight, finito may well lose
It was a picture of John Conteh. Then again the trolls on the General Forum will likely say he was a primitive old school fighter with no skills, and couldn't compete with the likes of Chad Dawson, so it's probably a good thing the pic didn't show up.
I hate accusing people of this, but are you sucking this guy's dick? You can't post without mentioning him or his alleged abilities.
I dont reach back further than I've been a fan, and for me, without hesitation the most complete was Julio Cesar Chavez. .......Evander Holyfield comes a close second.
:good I wasnt even gonna respond to that, but if i did i would have said some of what you said. Parts of his fight with Palomino too. Duran could fight however way he wanted to and be succesful, but you are correct that wasnt his style. Why didnt Ali come forward? Or Mayweather ? Cause they wouldnt be succesful against top notch opposition if they did. So in that sense i dont call them TOTALLY cOMPLETE fighters. Great fighters yes! Complete No!
:yep Chavez vs a roided Pacquiao, Chavez late tko! Chavez vs Pacquiao with legit performance enhancing stipulations like the one put forth by Mayweather Jr.....Chavez KO inside 6!:yep
