    Tell me about...
Who do you think are the most complete fighters in history?
Some who could do it all and had it all....

Sugar Ray Robinson of course, but who else ???

Roberto Duran in my opinion..... counter-punches, defense, great combinations, chin, power, infighting ability, outfighting ability, could do it all.... he was a perfect fighter in my book....IMO Hagler deserves a shout.....but....

....Who else ? Thoughts please guys !

The other sugar, sugar ray leonard, is probably the most complete fighter I can think of.

    SUGAR RAY LEONARD

All three fighters you named are exactly what I consider complete. I am sorry not to see Sugar Ray Leonard not in the mix. He was more complete than and Robinson and Hagler. None were greater than Robinson IMO however.

Leonard took on Benitez in a high-stakes/ high-speed chess match. Though Benetiz a master craftsman, we was slowly smothered and put down by Leonard. Against the fierce animal of Duran in Montreal bout Leonard stayed put, traded, and had his moments where he was the aggressor against Duran. As I score the fight, I sometimes score it a Leonard win.

Against Hearns, Leonard was getting outboxed and beaten up, until he went Montreal on Hearns, who he hunted down and finished. Hunted down TOMMY HEARNS and finished. Think about that.

Finally against Hagler, Leonard stuck and moved, setting trapped, trading, digging his heals in, and outworking Hagler to get the close decision. Against lesser fighters, Leonard was unhittable and a mean spirited puncher, who liked to dazzle, and who would look to embarrass and KO his opponent.

    good answers so far

one of my favourites, ricardo lopez deserves a shout out (i know, i know his in-fighting might not have been his strongest asset)

leonard, duran, robinson are great picks but i have to question hagler. early on his was more of a pure boxer, later he became a near perfect boxer/puncher but neither hagler was the definition of "complete"

i think emille griffith was pretty complete as well

That´s the one I always mention in those threads. Rodriguez was also pretty complete I think. Aside of the already mentioned ones.

Joe Gans and Benny Leonard for the old ones.
    Antonio Cervantes.
Bernard Hopkins in his prime could and would do it all.

    Jeff Chandler.

Could box well on the outside and do well in the trenches. Good jab, nice compact uppercuts on the inside, along with a quick right hand and a classic Philly-fighter left hook. Could string them together into extended combinations on a moment's notice. Not known as a power puncher, but had enough of it to stop anyone in their tracks if he had to, and could certainly take people out after grinding them down for a bit. When he was at his best, was tough to catch clean with anything more than a single shot at a time.

    That's pretty complete to me.

    Micheal Spinks

Possessed murderous power with both hands at LH, but could box and move as the need required. As the Cooney fight showed, he could also swarm and do so with some effectiveness. In either mode made himself a pretty difficult target to hit.

    Also worthy of a mention.

Wilfredo Gomez in his prime at 122 was the total package.
