Those of us Brits of a certain age remember "The curse of the Super Featherweights" when 14 consecutive British 130lbs title fights created a new champion for the then newly created title (16 if you include the initial 60s run of the belt). Is there a title in boxing that had more consecutive changes?
Not quite as many as the British 130lbs title, but from 1926 to 1935 the ownership of the world welterweight crown changed like this in consecutive fights: Pete Latzo Joe Dundee Jackie Fields Young Jack Thompson Tommy Freeman Young Jack Thompson Lou Brouillard Jackie Fields Young Corbett III Jimmy McLarnin Barney Ross Jimmy McLarnin Barney Ross
The welterweight jinx started with Jackie Fields. Latzo had 2 successful defences and Dundee one defence.
WBA heavyweight title: Bowe-->Holyfield-->Moorer-->Foreman-->Seldon, one defense, then-->Tyson -->Holyfield. Or Ali-->Spinks-->Ali-->Tate-->Weaver
Yes, I'm aware Latzo had two defences - but his loss to Dundee started the change in ownership. I didn't know, that Dundee's 10 rounds ND win against Billy Drako counted as a real title fight (not listed as such in the last Ring Record Book)… but if it does, the streak of ownership change in consecutive fights obviously starts with Dundee losing to Fields. And in that case, Latzo should be scratched from my list.
