lewis may of reigned and went on longer but tyson was the consistent performer. thats why tyson was so much more popular than lewis

manny steward used to always say that lewis was a erratic performer. if lennox was 50 % as consistent as tyson, he would of been the most feared hw of all time. there would not of been that many people doubting him like there was

Even years past his best Tyson would always give it his all, go in there and try and bomb you out.

Lennox could be far more subdued and willing to cruise... So I guess that could be a mark against his consistency.

Well, Tyson wouldn't stop Mavrovic either in my opinion, and that's really all you can fault Lennox for not doing in that fight.

Mike seemingly did struggle against McCall hearing about their sparring sessions. :D

I watched it a couple of months ago. I would not say he looked pathetic but rather average. Mavrovic's chin was solid and Lewis was hardly reserved, during the late rounds especially.

Tyson was a brawler, Lewis more technically sound.

Damn, both were pretty dominant champs, tough to say, really.

When Tyson still cared about training and discipline (pre-1990 or so) he was very consistent in the ring.

What's interesting is that, even after he stopped training and even FAR past his prime, he was always a killer inside the squared circle...even when he hadn't trained a minute for the fight.

Granted, he wasn't as "fierce" in old age (when he starts to lose focus against Lewis, etc), but he was always dangerous in the first couple of rounds.

So... When Tyson could be bothered he was more consistent... When he wasn't bothered well you can't really judge him on that that. Whilst Lewis was just inconsistent....

Career and longevity wise definitely Lewis.

I can see this debate being split down the middle 50-50. However, for me, Tyson was the more consistant performer. If you look at his reign as undisputed champ, Tyson was extrmely dominant during that time. Lewis never, ever had that same domination. When Tyson was champ, he was not only HW champ, but he was ranked P4P No.1. I don't think Lewis has ever been ranked the best fighter in the world?

Tyson made 9 successful defenses during his reign as champ. Tyson lost to Douglas, who was a guy Tyson should never have lost to, but hey, that's what happens when you take your opponent lightly! Credit must go to Douglas for fighting the best fight he possibly could.

Lewis, on the other hand, trained accordingly by all acounts for the first McCall & Rahman fights. He got KO'd by one punch. No ifs or buts about it.

I don't think people here understand what the word 'inconsistent' means.

... and Lewis didn't underestimate Rahman? Evidence suggests very much so that he did. He paid for lunging in against McCall but surely should have been given the chance to continue.
