Most Consistent Performer: Lewis or Tyson

The last thing in the world I'd call Tyson is consistent ... he had about four different careers to start ... Lewis was far and away the more consistent man ...

 

you can't just take it over prime though, surely that destroys the whole point ?

 

no im a HUGE tyson fan i just think that you have to in count those losses its not prime vs prime its career vs career

 

Ive seen very few champions in history as consistent as the prime 1980s title reign mike tyson. certainly lennox lewis was not one of them......with his oliver mccall I, ray mercer, rahman I, mavoric like performances.

 

Yes but you are pointing out four fights out of 20 over a seven or eight year period in which Lewis was fighting a lot of high ranking opponents. Tyson also had a few ordinary outings, Green, Tillis, Tucker, Smith, Douglas. Lewis was still at the top at 38.

 

Tyson was more consistent than Lewis. Going into the Douglas performance,he was 37-0 and had turned in almost only strong showings. Lewis only fought 44 times, and through his first 37 fights turned in far more uneven performances.

Tyson's run may have been short in years, but it was deep in fights. Lewis's run was longer in years, but less substantial due to his inactivity.
