Most disrespected elite fighters?

I know, Haye would do well to get by Mercer, Spoon, let alone the real elite guys like Tyson, Holy, Lewis.

 

I'm pretty sure it was a deal to get Hopkins to come to the UK, which is why he was so insistent on getting the lion's share of money. The same thing happened with Roy Jones. He too was reluctant to come to the UK to fight him. I didn't know they tried to get Brewer in the US. But still, he ended up having him in the UK, and continued stay here afterwards.

Whatever the reasons are for Froch and Khan, the fact is, they did have the options to remain in the UK, but they chose not to. Froch, being the champion, could have forced his mandatory to come to the UK. Khan, being a fighter under Warren just like Joe, could have renewed his contract and continued fighting soft opponents, regardless of what Freddie may have told him. But they both chose instead to make that commitment and go to the US early.

I don't think Calzaghe was unlucky at all. It's not as if fights never came his way. The world could have been his if he'd made that leap to America earlier. The likes of Jones, Hopkins, Toney, Taylor etc.....they all would have been there for him, and he would have had great fights (bar Jones and Hopkins, who would have whooped him) with all of them, and enhanced his legacy.

Mayweather gets too harshly treated, his behaviour let's him down true, but he is a fantastic fighter and he still has time to redeem himself against Pacman and other opponents. If he were to retire tomorrow he would rightly be remembered as an ATG.
Hopkins is a legitimate ATG, simple! Just his outspoken opinions and ramblings can be off putting to people. For me he is a great character in boxing. One of the few left!
Calzaghe if anything gets too much respect and is thought of in too high a bracket by the British boxing establishment. There is no doubt the Kessler win was a quality win, for me easily his best. The Lacy win was a good showing too, although against a over-hyped and over-matched opponent (admittedly no one knew at the time), then Hopkins for me sneaked their fight imho, other than that what is there to shout about in 46 fights. Eubank was past his best and weight drained, Roy Jones was 6 long years past his best and a virtual shell of the man. I liked Joe as a fighter, but rating him in the top 5 Britsh fighters of all time is hard for me to do, never mind has an ATG!
IMHO Carl Froch's last five fights is probably better than anything Joe done, and with Johnson and possibly Ward to come for Froch, it will definatley be a deeper, superior record to Calzaghe's. I would also add that Joe has'nt got half the personality of Froch either, Joe often came across has overly-arrogant and rather dour. This maybe harsh i know, and sound like i am nuthugging Froch for the sake of slagging Joe off but i am not. It's just when you think of the subject of the thread, and think about what Froch is doing in his career by fighting on foreign soil and tackling the best in the division, all without a TV deal. Then it makes you wonder about the plaudits Calzaghe gets when he did'nt really come close in terms of willingness to put it on the line. So when you talk about disrespect with Joe, i think it is more that people feel he is'nt worthy of his status, and there are right he is'nt. A good fighter and a good champ, but not an ATG by any stretch. Has for being Britains best ever fighter...What over the likes of Lennox Lewis? I don't think so.
Let's get it right, i am a David Haye fan, but i will say now he is not an ATG, no way!! Unless he beats or performs very well against the Klitschkos, and then sticks around for a few more years after then he is'nt going to be an ATG.
The disrespect of David Haye is partly justified, for his inability to get it on with the Klitschko's (although the blame must lay with them too,especially Wlad), his lack of opposition at heavy and his inactivity. Like i said i am a Haye fan, but i have become less of one in the past 2 years because of the said reasons. So yeah the disrespect towards Haye is slightly justified and understandable. I had high expectations of him moving to heavy, but it has been dissapointing to say the least. If he just wants to line his pockets and get out then fair enough, but i wish he would do it with some meaningful fights before he retires. No doubt about it he was one of the best cruisers, but at heavy he could achieve a lot more with his speed, power and personality. Which leads me to why i feel some of his criticism is undeserved. It is obvious that there is people out there that just downright hate on him because of his good looks and personality, and also because he is a direct threat to the brothers. Maybe it's just human nature, but like i said unjustified. But criticizing him for leaving you feel unfullfilled with his heavyweight career is more than fair.

Calazaghe was good, but protected.

Mayweather is talented, but a giant *****.

Haye isn't even an elite fighter. He just runs his mouth a lot, then hides.

I should have been more specific. Joe & Rocky didnt have any draws. No arguement from me about how good Lopez was though.

 

My only disagreement with those names are Haye...Technically, Haye didnt unify the Cruiserweight division because he didnt fight Steve Cunningham.

but to answer you question...IMO its Benard Hopkins...Dont take my word for it, just look at some of the threads that are being made about him...For what he's done through out his career...nobody can question him as a fighter or question his accomplishments!

I feel Calzaghe gets allot of unfair hate to go with some critisism which might be warranted.
