A more recent example that springs to mind was Kell Brook coming over and beating Shawn Porter. I have to admit I didn't know much about Brook then apart from he beat up Ricky Hatton's brother once and also stopped Vyach Senchenko, the Ukrainian who beat Ricky himself in his attempted comeback so it was a major surprise to me to see how well he done against Porter who was quite well regarded at that time (and still is) It wasn't exactly a dominant performance but still very impressive especially since it was only I think, the first or second time he had ever fought outside Britain.

Lloyd Honeyghan beating Donald Curry. The Lone Star Cobra was being touted as Marvin Hagler's successor for being the best pound for pound fighter in the world at this point. Honeyghan tore him apart.

This was in tougher political times. Remembered reading later at the time it united the
whole of Ireland even if it was just for one hr same what Pacquiao does in Philippines for
one hr every time he fights.

Yep that's correct jup regarding Barry. Whenever Barry fought it united the protestants and Catholic s. They all came together to cheer for Mcguigan. Some thing I doubt many sports could do really.

To right Stevie, honeyghan was on fire in that one. Probably no one in America at least thought that the brit stood a chance against there man. Remember ring magazine making him there fighter of the month and called it the upset of the decade.

    Honeghan v Curry was great.

I think John H Stracey defeating Jose Napoles in Mexico was great too. Napoles was past his best for sure but that was a great win by Stracey and deserves more recognition.

Fury dethroning Wlad in Germany is amazing.

Walter McGowan gave Salvatore Burruni a masterclass in boxing to win the flyweight title. Burruni had previously beaten Walter in a European title fight in Italy.
