Gomez took something out of Arthur that night that could never be replaced regardless of the hours put into the gym. Whilst the beating Hamed took at the hands of Barrera was hardly physically career ending, that night he mentally lost everything he lived off in the ring. I also think the beating Tyson took from Lewis humbled him somewhat. Can't remember ever seeing the outrageous side of him as much (if at all) after that.
I know i broke my big toe and the one next to it last monday night and i've been playing football for my team on sunday yes it's painfull and i can't kick with that foot but it doesn't effect my running that much and i've had no pain killing injections or tablets the trufth is he froze
I don't think that fight dig affect DeGales ego, he didn't acknowledge the loss and seemed the same person (over!) confident after the fight as he was before it.
:rofl I dont know how you come up with them Tiger, but you do! Anthony Farnell v Takaloo. Arnie was unbeaten, mancunian & as arrogant as only a mancunian undefeated fighter can be, i.e. Utterly. Arnie & Ricky, in the early days SKY gave them both the full hypejob, & Arnie sucked it all up, unbeaten record & all that against nobodies to the extent he thought the WBU was the ring belt, even swaggering in with his Man U top on to 'we are the champions' Then Tak played the bongo drums on Farnells head & done him in a round, & Arnie I believe had a 'reality rehab' & became a much better person after that fight. Ego crushed by Takaloos power. I dont blame the man though, I blame SKY for making Arnie think he was the man.
I was gonna put me and Tak to ha! But dunk don't take the **** lad. I was not arrogant just a confident unbeaten fighter.
Yeah - I have to agree with Dunky. Arnie got his ego smashed by Taks nasty uppercut. But if it made you a better wiser man - than good for you - like Ryan Rhodes the flashy spice boy - got his ego smashed into a million pieces by Jason Matthews - but he become a better all round seasoned pro down the line. Any confident proud unbeaten fighter - risks having their ego crushed every time they step into a ring. Michael Grant had the nastiest shock of his life - when his ego was bewlidered by Lennox Lewis power from the opening round.
Dont underestimate how much Nigel Benns ego was left with a deep scar after getting stopped by Eubank in their 1st fight.
I know I'm straying slightly away from boxing but........... A ego as big and brash - as James Toney - him getting raped against Randy Couture like that - must of seriously ****ed with his whole identity as a fearless tough guy.
