I was thinking before I really need to brush up on my knowledge of some really good heavyweight scraps in the 80's. Any suggestions?

Pretty thin on the ground in that decade. I would pick Holyfield-Dokes.

well entertaining I put in a package of excitement and a fighters great performance. I like Larry Holmes vs. Gerry Cooney. The event and the way Larry proved people wrong. Exciting fight? Some of the TV fights of the 1980s were sort of wild. Weaver vs. Williams and Bonecrusher vs Weaver. Weaver sometimes made for some interesting fights because of his power and then his unpredictable chin.

I read a article on Dokes and his career and it mentioned how well he did against Holyfield in a good fight, I'll have to check it out. Thats what I thought before this thread, not too many great heavyweight fights in that decade.

I've only ever seen the legendary nights, really need to see the full fight. Certainly a big event, from what I know of it.

Great shout Stevie G. Dokes had some speed on him for a big man.

Holyfield-Dokes is a good call. Mike Weaver always brought it.

Holyfield/Dokes wins be a landslide. But Holyfield/StewartI was entertaining and Snipes/Washington was 'fun'.

The list is just that; a list. For starters Douglas/McCall was hardly exciting. Ribalta/Sims on the same card, may not quite have had the same quality (although, it was not far behind), but it was a bit more of a giggle to watch...

That is the order of favorites I came up w/ about 2 years ago when someone did a similar thread....Holyfield Dokes is probably cream of the crop...

I don't know that I would call it exciting, but I found it entertaining...Have not seen Ribalta/Sims
