Bobby Chacon and Danny Lopez are my two picks here. Jung-Koo Chang is also very exciting to watch, just fury.
Well I wouldn't go that far. Although the fact Paul Pender has not been mentioned is beyond criminal.
Numero Uno for me is Bob Satterfield the guy goes all out, no sense of caution or pacing yourself just throws absolute bombs. Pryor, Lopez, Chacon and younger Tyson all deserve mention.
Some really good choices listed here. I would add Jack Dempsey to the list. In a 1969 Ring Magazine feature, Nat Fleischer debated Jim Jacobs on who was the "Most Crowd Pleasing Fighter". Fleischer argued for Dempsey, while Jacobs chose Sugar Ray Robinson. Controversial in his own day, combined with his savage fighting style, there was always an air of anticipation in Dempsey's major fights that anything could happen, and often did. This is what contributed to five million-dollar gates in the '20s, something previously unheard-of, along with huge attendance figures. And it would be a while before the next such gate. In his autobiography, Jack Kearns, Dempsey's former manager wrote "I won't argue that he was the best fighter, but I will say that he was the most exciting. Kind of like baseball - most will say Ty Cobb was the best all-around player, but give me Babe Ruth for sheer electricity and excitement each time he steps to the plate."
Mickey Ward, Saad Muhummad, Chacon and Lopez all put on some classics but for mine Arturo Gatti trumps them all. He wasn't the greatest fighter, hell he wasn't great at all but in terms of thrills, give and take action, heart and desire he was in a class of his own. Even when he was out classed by Angel Manfredy and monstered by Oscar De La Hoya he never stopped swinging for the fences and was compelling to watch. How many fights of the year was he invoved in? There was Wilson Rodriguez, Gabe Ruales, Ivan Robinson and Mickey Ward. I'm not sure but that has to be some sort of record for a bloke with under 50 fights.
Corrie Sanders....first thought was what a tragedy...and that he was a very exciting fighter..he had that explosive left hand power..R.I.P. Champ!!
I am not a fan.....but based upon excitement leading up to a fight and everyone sitting on the edge of their seats, I would say Tyson.
Cornelius Boza Edwards was in some wars... Wasn't Carmen Basilio in Ring's fight of the Year 4 times, and Rocky Marciano in The Ring's fight of the Year 3 times...that must count for something?
Basilio was in the Ring's Fight of the year in five straight years, hes certainly up there with the most exciting fighters ever.
