Combat sport schools are notoriously poor at generating income, at least if you're not one of the few big names who cashed out martial art school franchises in the 1970s.

But boxing is an older, richer, and more institutionalized combat sport than any of the others. By far.

So the question is, how financially successful have the best trainers been? And why did they succeed (if they did...) where the others failed?

It's not a dimension of boxing history that I've seen talked about much, so I'm curious.

Could be wrong here so any trainers that are successful may chime in and correct. But a leg up in the business is to get government help. Many boxing centers will take on low income kids etc with funding from local and state government. If those guys are successful and produce contenders then word of mouth spreads. With that comes more money. But def government grants have helped a few gyms I know start off. That doesn’t mean everyone gets them.
