No HW really makes the cut for me. Sanchez, Benitez, Duran, Whitaker, Kalambay, McCallum, Floyd... These are the names that directly spring to mind. I'm sure Napoles qualifies too, but I just haven't seen very much of him. Same with Loche and Pep. Would love to see some prime Charles as well, but that's not going to happen. Robinson was the complete fighter, but I don't really think of him in terms of "finesse", perhaps because he was such a killer. He was just too friggin deadly to have to time to be cute and wait for the other guy. Rigo and Loma today. Two naturals that also are extremely well schooled. It will be a privilege to watch them fight.
Some good points brought here about constitutes a "finesse boxer" . I really struggle with thinking of Joe Louis as a finesse boxer when he fractured Max Schmeling's vertebrae! I'm sure a tiger has finesse but I don't think them as a finesse animal. I think more in terms of fighters that rely primarily on finesse. Along is defense synonymous with being a defensive fighter or one who relies on their quickness?
Monzon and Duran being finesse? Interesting picks lol, I would disagree! I also think Loma and Pep are a bit more dynamic than finesse. Rigo is a good pick. I would say Benny Leonard deserves a mention too. Joe Louis is the most finesss power puncher ever. He was finesse through and through imo. Always maintained posture, composure and poise. They way he committed to his mechanics even when going for the finish is what sticks out to me.
Yes Duran! Jimmy Young, Benitez, even Leanard. Sal Sanchez, Vilimar Fernandez, Saul Mamby, Howard Davis jr. Marlon Starling
Words don't have definitions, they have usages, and I'm not quite sure how "finesse" is being used here. I'd consider Joe Louis extremely technical, but "finesse" is not one of the first descriptors that would come to my mind.
