You rarely see a KO where a guy is unconscious for an extended period of time.
A KO in boxing is when the referee reaches a count of 10 before a fighter gets up from a knockdown. Liston KO'd Patterson, twice.
Patterson was very undersized for a HW, his chin might have been concrete at LHW but he was on the canvas and hurt a lot as a HW. He had amazing heart however and always got up or tried to get up.

 

I agree. There is just more dignity being able to get up than going to sleep on the canvas.
