Carmen Basilio suffered a grotesquely swollen eye against Robinson and Arnold Taylor suffered one just as bad against Romeo Anaya.

I've heard of people having their ears torn off in the ring with punches. Any examples?

Probably not due to one fight, but my dad lost an eye to the game.

If you head over to their site and check out the Brooklyn Eagle's report of Kid Lavigne's fight with Joe Walcott in Dec of 1895 you'll find something along the lines of what you're looking for, Maxmomer.

Kid Lavigne by Barbados Joe Walcott (many ringsiders thought the ear was completely detached).

    Jim Jeffries by Bob Fitzsimmons.

    Jess Willard by Gunboat Smith.

William Joppy was a state after Bernard Hopkins' forehead was done with him.

I think he had a bet with Hopkins he would not be stopped, at least he won some money.

Not the worse ever but a odd one...

Alex Stewart vs. Ezra Sellers. Stewart was knocked down several times. Came back to win but he had this grotesque swelling coming off the side of his head.
