Most harrowing/crazy images/scenes in boxing

Tony Tubbs vs Lionel Butler. Tubbs was on a good run after his loss to Tyson, beating Orlin Norris and arguably beating Riddick Bowe on points in their fight. Butler, on the other hand, was a journeyman who decided he wanted to become a contender. Now watch the fight, it’s probably one of the most brutal knockouts of all time.

 

There was that fight from South Africa a couple of years ago, where one of the boxers became completely disorientated and started punching at a phantom opponent. I remember when I saw it I was mildly amused, but it came to light the boxer was put into a coma due to a brain bleed and subsequently died, and I felt awful due to my initial reaction to the footage.

 

In recent times, Wardley's KO of Clarke was ridiculous. It looks like Clarke's jaw was dislocated and like his head had been literally caved in. In that moment, watching it the first time and seeing his head, I thought "****, is he ok?"

De La Hoya getting stopped by a body shot vs Hopkins on a PPV headliner was something. I can't think of a big star or fight of that magnitude ending like that. As a kid I never expected that to happen

 

Obviously all ring deaths and maimings are the worst, so I'm mostly going to discount those.

Having said that, I think Benn/McClellan is one of the saddest because it was such an epic fight that got ruined by the end. To see a guy go down like that, not even knocked down, and then to have Ferdie Pacheco say that McClellan "ran out of heart" was brutal.

McCall breaking down against Lewis, Tillery kicking Bowe. Fan man. The 90s were nuts.

The various ear injuries including the fellow Margarito fought. Lujan?

 

Eubank Sr looking confused as hell when he tries to touch Watson's glove and he can barely reciprocate it, then the ref just lets him cross the ring and ruin both their lives.
