I am well aware that the colour bar was largley an American phenomenon, but America was also the epicentre of boxing (and many other sports) for most of the 20th century. A European or South American fighter with aspirations to fight at world level had to break the American market. To that extent it might as well have been a global colour bar. And, yes I do think that the Louis Lewis title fight was groundbreaking. It was the first heavyweight title fight between two black heavyweights for 30 years. It was also a test case that led to the title challenges of Walcott and later Charles.
