Combination Punching: ORLANDO CANIZALES (example: vs Kelvin Seabrooks) Hand Speed: MELDRICK TAYLOR (vs John Deekins) Punching Power: BOB FOSTER (any fight at lightheavy) Stamina: MANNY PACQUIAO (vs Erik Morales 1) Punch resistance: WAYNE McCULLOUGH (vs Erik Morales) and JAMES TONEY (vs Sam Peter 1) Footwork: BERNARD HOPKINS (any fight from the 21st century)
for who Barrera or Chavez? What impresses me with these two is the incredible accuracy, you cannot excuse them as being just wild flurries like other combination throwing fighters are accused of.
McCullogh is a good pick, I considered him but I dont think Hopkins footwork compares with Ali or either of the sugar`s tbh. They had every bit of great placement of footing to switch between offence & defence as Hopkins had but a lot swifter when required & with more variety... their lateral movement for instance blows B-Hops to shreds.
Dunno about that mate, B-Hop basically never puts a foot wrong. He may not look as impressive as SRR or SRL, but his footwork is different because he is less offensive. His is more defensive and measured, but it is what allows his supernatural punch accuracy, and what means he very rarely takes a clean shot. He is never, ever caught out of position.
Hopkins footwork was Eubank-esque on the frontfoot by the time he left middleweight strangely.Though it was back to his best at light heavy. His poor feet when coming forward and tendency to fall into clinches after the right where a big part of why the fights with ordinary taylor were so close.
Shall we add defense as a category? Combination Punching: Mike Tyson Hand Speed: Floyd Patterson Punching Power: Earnie Shavers Stamina: Rocky Marciano Punch resistance: Jake Lamotta Pure Defense: Nicolino Locche I managed to list 3 Italian fighters. I'm proud.
Combination Punching: Joe Louis Handspeed: Muhammad Ali Punching Power: Bob Satterfield Stamina: Battling Nelson Punch Resistance: Tony Zale
PS just for general overall impressiveness on film - it has to be the one and only Gene Tunney - one of the best boxers ever in my humble opinion - big shout out for Gene
Some journeyman who fought Michael Spinks. I have it on DVD...I simply cannot believe the pasting he took. flush uppercuts...this guy was a machine ,didn't even come close to going down. The referee stopped it because the beating was so horrendous. I'll upload it for you. I've never seen a better demonstration of punch resistance in one single showing, Spinks hit like a ton at 175. It's incredible footage.
