tragic ending but what a fight from both, Mancini had a hell of a chin.

 

Yes agree. Mancini gets stepped on alot here but I always looked forward to watching him all those yrs ago. He always showed up in shape and brought it. A gracious winner and no excuses when he lost. Always conducted himself with class. What more can you ask for.

 

On the subject of tragic fights, how about Johnny Owen? @Mike Cannon has already mentioned what a terrific fighter Lupe Pintor was and Johnny went to the LA Olympic - the lion's den - to meet him.

Bless him, Johnny was a decent domestic and European fighter but he had no business being in that hellish environment with such a good fighter and even less business still being in there for round 12. If he'd only put up less of a showing, he might not have died.

He'd have been 70 this year. Wow! That went quickly.

 

Lyle or Godoy. I mean we have a post celebrating the anniversary of Foreman v Lyle. Lyle didn't win the world title he didn't win the NABF hes remembered because he almost broke the unbreakable man.
