Most impressive run: Hopkins, RJJ or Wlad?

    He was essentially undefeated from 89-04.

    The Griffin loss was a DQ for hitting Griffin when he was down.

    Jones outboxed Hopkins. Then he spanked unbeaten Toney EASILY .
    I remember him beating the holy hell out of Thulane Maligna who was a very good boxer- 2x champion latter on and had given Eubank and Benn all they could handle. Jones made Maligna look like it was his first day boxing.
    Thomas Tate was a soild contender .Gave Ottke all he wanted .Jones blasted him out in two rounds and he made Tate look so helpless.
    Jones was just so dominating he made it look unfair. If an opponent gave him a halfway decent round you got excited because you thought he might finally get tested. And then BAM Jones would level them .
    And thats the thing he CRUSHED most people or won just about every round.

    Yeah, it says a lot when Del Valle and Harding are brought up as times when he looked more average. It's true that he looked less impressive in these fights, but he still won both comfortably.

    Roy Jones. His run went from 91 or whenever he turned pro to 2004. The Griffen fight was a loss but he wasn't beaten.

    All three of them had pedestrian level of opp.

    Bryd was Ring Magazine's #1 man when Wlad faced him.

    I'd say Roy's run was the least impressive of the three though it was good. He missed out on DM, and some other guys.

    Wlad was on top for ten years and ducked no one.

    Hopkins age makes his run the most impressive, even though some of his best names were lower weight fighters moving up to middle.

    True. But he was 36 and would lose two of his four remaining fights after Wlad. You kind of get the feel that it says more about the quality of the time than the quality of Byrd at that time.

    Which other ones are you thinking of, during his LHW run 1997-2004?

    Well, whatever you want to call it, he didn't face the most dangerous opponent out there. His own brother. Most of us understand why, but the fact is that it is a W that is missing from his record.

    True. But I think Haye and Byrd must count as two of Wlad's better wins during his run. Povetkin is probably the best, but those two are up there as well.

    Byrd fought far better v Wlad than Haye did and fought better defensively than Povetkin did.
