Don't you think a 2018 source that is dedicated soley to boxing is a more reliable one than a nearly 30 years old general one? Please provide the extra names on his record as requested.
CyberZone lists his longest undefeated streak as from Jan 1919 until Feb 1923 when he was beaten by Tunney. 107 of which 40 were decisions.
Klompton literally wrote the book on it. I would trust his actual verified research over any other source and I know he has said boxrec is pretty much on the money in terms of Greb's record. Even taking newspaper decisions into consideration, there is not a 178 fight winning streak. However, no one is questioning Greb's greatness. His record and opposition bear that out.
It's not really an impressive feat in itself, just a technicality, IIRC he had newspaper losses in that period. Not that his career was at all unimpressive
Apologies - I meant to write '178 fight unbeaten streak' rather than 'winning streak'. I guess the no decision/newspaper decision era is a bit of a grey area in terms of official unbeaten streaks so it's harder to measure than later eras when there was an official verdict by a referee or judges.
