Shouldn't the fighter who has limited skills but manages to consistently beat the faster and higher skilled fighters be the one with the higher IQ? It easy to look smart when your speed and skills are far greater than your opponents. The smartest fighter should have to overcome a serious flaw to be successful. The guys mentioned here have no serious flaw, they are to skilled to have truly proven to be the one's with the highest IQ. Well its just a thought. I don't think I can answer this question with an actual name, though JMM perhaps comes closest.
You think he's cerebral?:think I always had him pegged as one of those guys like RJJ who benefitted from a hefty dose of athleticism
He's very athletic but he is very good at making subtle ajustments. Make no mistake about it Martinez is a thinking man's fighter.
Mayweather-JMM Hopkins Ward Bute I put Floyd and Jmm togerther because although Floyd beat JMM it was more of a physical victory than a mental one. I think that JMMs boxing brains are on par with Mayweathers.
imma go out on a limb here and say although I dont think he is the smartest he should definately be mentioned, Ivan Calderon is one of the best pure boxers Ive ever seen... if he had some size on him and everything else was the same he would be a boxing icon, no love for the lil man though lol
Juan Manuel Marquez because I do not feel he is quite as physically gifted as Mayweather. Hopkins falls into the same catagory.
Offensively, yes he's at or near the absolute top of the heap. He's a bit too eager to err on the side of macho to be called an all-around intelligent fighter (in the class of Mayweather, Hopkins, or Ward), though.
Yuriorkis Gamboa is among the " most intelligent " boxers in the ring. Boxing experts and trainers all agree.
