I say yes. If Joshua beats Martin, and Wilder fights Povetkin (whoever wins), we will then have three belt holders, and almost certainly the strongest (entirely or mostly) early prime 3 title holders to hold belts at the same time in HW history. All will either be undefeated with great resumes, or will feature only one fighter with only one loss to an ATG. Imagine the unification scenarios. Its too bad there is such a hater driven fan base, most people really aren't adequately appreciating how lucky we are to have such a strong field right now. The 90's is the only time that compares to it, with Bowe, Lewis, Tyson, Holyfield, Foreman holding belts sometimes at the same time. But while those guys (currently) have higher ATG rating than these guys, they were mostly in the middle or twilight of their career while they were holding belts at the same time. This is unprecedented because they are all in the early prime of their career (unless Povetkin wins, which is one of the big reasons I'll be rooting for Wilder). And there is a decent chance that two or maybe all three of them will get to be top 20 ATG's and rival the 90's hw's.
No not even close. the complete 60,s through to early to mid 90,s were more interesting and all round better. What we have here is a bit of a peak after a decade of a flatlining division.
LOL nope no way.look what you have done to people with you're coma inducing title reign wlad,I am glad its over.
There does seem to be some potential drama and good match ups shaping up but in the end that is just pretty much due to 6-8 fighters (Fury, Wladimir, Povetkin, Wilder, Joshua, Ortiz, Haye, Martin), a couple of which have the somewhat true "they're unproven" chant against them, and the undeserving existence of and credit to 2 other titles (IBF, WBC) floating around. The depth of the division beyond those guys at the moment isn't too great to support them (Pulev, Jennings, Takam, Scott, Chagaev, etc, and it goes downhill from there) even though I like a couple of those guys so the excitement that is being anticipated by some on this forum will be dependent on just how much those top-tier 6-8 guys fight each other over the next 18 months. So I wouldn't get too carried away and would bet money it doesn't go down among any of the best several year stretches in HW history by any means. But it is looking pretty good and I do look forward to seeing how it shakes out.
It is an interesting time for the heavyweight division. Now that the Klitschko's time of dominance has passed we are seeing a more competitive era, not necessarily better but definitely more competitive without 2 such dominant champions. Joshua is bringing in a lot of attention and money, Fury will never be a boring champion with his tendency to inflame everyone, Parker's speed and power is also welcome addition and Wilder may not be great but his fights are competitive and entertaining even when he's struggling to beat C level opposition. Then you have Haye coming back from the dead and looking to make waves in this new era. Lots of big personalities, egos and potentially competitive fights.
Yes I agree I don't know if a lot of the old time fighters could hang with these new bigger heavies and there are a lot of exciting fights
LOL That is such a load of BS. Holmes ruled and had bums under him. Then Tyson took over and had bums under him. The 80s division was terrible.
