That bothers you? IMO, that's part of why he's so likable. Cool!! I find Hopkins tremendously entertaining. He has that sense of being a fast talking ( although he's got a limited vocabulary and is not that smart and eloquent but he tries to be) scoundrel with a strong selfish will who manipulates and schemes and spins and hustles to get things things his way and would cut every corner and take every shortcut and cheat in every possible way, wile trying to hide the fact that he's a scoundrel. I also love all the antics; staring down the media after the Pavlik fight, hanging through the ropes to talk to Manny Steward after Tarver etc etc [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4LncvUNdB9w[/ame] The Ali and Bert Cooper! I often wonder that myself. Funny!
Now - Jermain Taylor seems like a good guy Then - Marvin Hagler; after reading "Four Kings" I can't help but love the guy..... quiet, unassuming, hard working, and very intelligent.
In terms of sheer personality, I like and get a kick out of any version of Ali. Even if a lot of people don't, I would think that even his worst detractors would admit that post-retirement he generally conducted himself himself pretty well, even in the face of Parkinson's Syndrome and some fairly scathing criticism about some of his early behavior.
I've never met a human being who smiled that much for a sustained period of time like Mosley. It's to the point where I doubt if the man has a central nervous system.
when norton got into a motorcycle accident, ali was the first person to visit him in the hospital. you get the impression, he was talking trash because he just wanted attention, and really felt he was supperior, like when floyd talks trash. i wonder if frazier will ever squash this feud before either one of them leaves the world.
In terms of being classy, I always liked the way Maurice Hope and Marvin Johnson conducted themselves. Mickey Ward was another guy that you couldn't really help but like, either.
i don't think anyone mentioned glen johnson. this man's been robbed more times than a liquor store. but he seems like a nice guy, and classy.
Martin Rogan for anyone that knows him. Knows hes not the most talented but wills himself to vicotry. always keeps his career light hearted and keeps his job fun. Witty too. Add john thaxton to that list to.
I've never met Ray Leonard in person so I'm not going to judge Leonard's smiley...ness. It doesn't make Mosley any less of a nice guy. It's just odd that a man would smile at all points of the day. I'm from NY, we never smile.
LOL! He comes off as naive and (God, I hate to say it) not that intelligent (although I wounder if that's just the impression he gives, he's the best interviewee you could ask for. when you ask him about something technical, he'll really give you a good analysis instead of, like a lot of athletes, talking in meaningless stock clishes) not that intelligent, and I think that smiling is the reason he gives that impression.
