Fitzsimmons definitely had similar power to them. Goddard was old and past prime, but he was a huge hitter.

 

If I had to pick one of them, it would be Louis. He had history of stopping extremely durable fighters. The same can't be said about the rest, or at least it's arguable.

Depth of talent pool but also techniques and tactics. Jeffries was essentially learning on the job and had very very few fights. Boxing was illegal in many US states during this period

People might point to a fighter having limited experience today with 20 bouts. But they at least had 100-200 amateur bouts, often against world class opposition

I hope you know those were ACTORS on the you tube film you posted, not Jeffries or Fitzsimmons himself.

 

Did you just use this as an example of how Jeffries fought? Do you know that it's not even Jeffries and neither of them were real fighters?

I think that it would be very dangerous to make assertions about the depth of the talent pool in this era. We know that twenty years later it was enormous, so it could have been big then.

Your point about Jeffries learning on the job is valid, but you had guys around like Fitzsimmons who had immense experience, both amateur and professional.

I don't think that Jeffries tactics style would be well suited to a modern bout, but that doesn't mean that he was unskilled, or that he didn't know what he was doing. He might simply have found the style that was optimal for the rules that he was fighting under.

 

I don’t think leading with your face is a good idea against any of those opponents.
