With the way fighters are protected these days and the lengths which are gone to to protect the 0 can anybody let me know who in recent years - 80s onwards - has won a genuine version of a world title with numerous losses already on their record?

The one who jumps to my mind is Johnny Nelson but wouldnt mind knowing of any others.

Johnny Nelsons pale into insignificance in comparison to these! Surely they hadnt lost this number prior to winning a world title though had they?!?

Carlos Baldomir had about 9 losses I think, before he won a world title.

Cristobal Cruz is the first guy that I thought of. He had 11 losses and won a vacant title. He's got nothing on the dudes Flea and Fanny have mentioned, though.

Yes thats right. I remember one of his first defences was against Gatti and Baldomir had plenty of losses behind him.

Only reason for the original question was just out of intrigue as I cant be doing with the mentality of keeping the 0 at all costs. Wanted to know how many have managed to still go on to be successful even with a fair few defeats on the record.

Sorry I genuinely didn't see the 80's onwards bit lads; Steve Robinson?

My default setting when talking about World Champs is to talk about the genuine champs, not the alphabet crew :good

If you recognise the WBO I'm sure there will be some in there with 10+ losses.
