I disagree. Holmes may not have been taking it easy on Ali but there is no evidence,in my mind,that he went about his work that night with any particular enjoyment or malice.

 

They Qawi/Spinks L bout is the first one that comes to mind.

 

There have been many savage beat downs in boxing history, but Ali vs Terrell and Patterson and Tyson vs Biggs are the ones that seem deliberately drawn out.

 

Marlon Starling dismantled Lloyd Honeyghan, completely outclassing him, handing him a nasty beating and enjoyed every second. Starling totally beat the snot out of Lloyd and finished him as a top level fighter and it was hard to watch as a Honeyghan fan back in the day. Marlon is mostly forgotten today but he was a handful for anyone at 147lbs.

 

In a sense all and every boxing match is mean spirited.
