Bruno/"Bonecrusher" Smith derailed Frank from being weapons grade boxing tornado to a boxer who you knew was always going to be just below world level because of his stamina. Before Smith Bruno had knocked out/retired twenty in a row.

  2. Who was the guy who gave Duddy fits, Smichet or something.

Around the time of that fight there was talk about him getting a shot at Pavlik, back when there was a serious ****** element amongst the Irish members of this board, many reckoned he'd have won.

And knocked out Monzon and Hagler with the same punch too.

In the end he got bashed up in a war and had to suck it up to escape with a split decision win (deserved I must add), and it never happened for him. A couple of 8/10 rounders against bus drivers and then the defeat against Lyell. From then on he was on the slippery slope and did the right thing calling it a day.

You can pretty much tell that the people who talked such major **** about duddy werent even really boxing fans, they were just ****s who got caught up in the hype and decided to follow duddy because he was making a name.

  4. Oh I know, they were ****ing nuts though.

Quite often they'd pick an Irish fighter to win simply because he was Irish, not because he might be better than the opponent or anything important like that.

So me and a few of the others regularly joined in the threads, saying it's great to see British fighters flying the flag on the east coast and stuff. I'm sure I'm not the only one to receive nice PM's from ''fra'' telling me what a prized **** I was, and that I should sleep with one eye open.

 Fra's a ****ing nutcase mate, hes the stereotypical natiionalist fanatic, I wouldnt take him too seriously though. But I get what you're saying, im not a fan of fanboyism of any kind, even if it is in support of an Irish fighter. Its what's wrong with this site, cuban fans, *******s, *****s they're all at it.

At the time; Watson/Benn, Tyson/Douglas and Mosley/ForrestI. Although all three would go on to show they were more than hype.

As for out and out frauds: Bobick/Norton and Frazier/Holmes comes to mind; and with a bit of irony, Banjo/Frazier for us Brits...

The sad thing is is that the fight itself has become hyped up over the years turnng it into a schooling, a shut-out when it certainly wasn't

I suppose this thread wouldn't be complete without the honourable mention of Curry Honeyghan

Its actually a great first round to watch both landing some massive shots. Not much boxing prowess but great brawling action. Isn't that the reason people liked Duddy anyway?

Its a shame that Duddy ultimately lost out on most of his career earnings.
