Duddy/Smichet was a fun fight....that was followed by Wlad/Ibragimov :dead

I think the deal was if Duddy got past Smichet comfortably he'd get a shot at Pavlik but he got dragged into a war (as usual :D) and got a few cuts and whatnot.

Duddy was unlucky though I dont know if you have read it and I know its a bit of a mission to read it but ill post this article. Absolute eye opener.

    http://www.secondsout.com/columns/thomas-hauser/the-truth-about-john-duddy

Long story short he was offered a fight with Jermaine Taylor for $1.6 million but his promoters rejected it because his management made more money off of him fighting Smichet etc because they sold tickets on the side and kept the money away from Duddy.

Yeah Duddy could of been far off at that point. Wasn't he put on that show a bit late as well to save it from being empty? Wlad vs ibragimov was just plain awful no trouble sleeping that night.

Mijares had a serious amount of hype before the Vic fight as did Vic before Donaire's fight. The General was insane at times over Mijares (still a very good fighter though)

Alexeev was another that had this place hyped up to the moon.

Oh man, Mijares had some serious hype. I once had a argument with a Mijares fan on here who was going on about him being more 'slick' than Benitez and Whitaker.

Think one of the Irish guys posted that before. Had to feel sorry for Duddy the guys managing him were properly ****ing him over. He probably still made a good bit of money but he was done out of far more. Not to many non entertaining fights even his loss to Chavez jr he was giving it a real good go. Shame Lee, Macklin, Barker and him didn't have fights would of saved this place from a lot of threads a few years back

Mijares was getting some crazy hype on here and he was expected to school Darchinyan. I think he'd even been added to the Ring P4P top 10 a week or so before .

Alexeev was meant to be the next best thing at cruiser and he loss to that Argie which was a massive shocker. Danny Jacobs was getting a lot of hype around that time as well, he was knocking guys out all over the place. Teddy Atlas got slated on here for saying Jacobs was not really a puncher despite his record .

Seen that Duddy article before Wrimc, he was proper shafter :-(. I think for Wlad/Ibragimov at MSG Duddy sold about 250k worth of tickets. He was really popular in NYC and that's really why he was lined up for title shots. I do respect him for retiring when he did. He had that fight against Andy Lee lined up which would have been a decent earner. He could have gone through with that, took the money and then retired but he didn't.

I always thought that was a class move by him. how many times have we seen a fighter turn up for one last payday. Would be so easy but he had a bit of self respect and you cant really knock that.

:good Yep, most fighters would have took that one payday before hanging the gloves up. Think it was a six figure purse as well.

He went out on his own terms which isn't something you see too often in this sport.

Is he still working for that internet site on boxing or is he finished with that, they also "definitely" had Lewis on there. I miss Lennox's madness during a fight.

Campbell beating Juan Diaz was a huge shock to me at the time, thought he was going to dominate for a few years.

Campbell was seen as an easy defence for Diaz. Was a really good fight though, Nate schooled him on the inside.

The lightweight division was pretty good around that time.

Antillon/Acosta was a big upset. Antillon was getting a good rep - mainly cos of his sparring with Pacquiao

Diaz pretty much lost the plot after he got cut. He had no idea how to deal with it. Got taken apart.

Antillion had massive hype. A lot of Pacmans sparring partners did for a long time I remember actually hoping they would get beat just to shut the general up at times. Linares being a prime example he got threw under the bus big time once he got KO'ed

Reid was a decent fighter though. He had eye problems which was unfortunate, that's why they cashed out and fed him to the sharks. He had to make some money quick because his career was ganna be over because of that eye. He put up a decent effort against Tito aswell before that hook from hell.
