Ok, I see your point. I have just seen him go into survival mode. I think he got lucky Mosley was headhunting and going for the KO at the end of their fight and that Clottey gassed. I think all 4 (Clottey, MOsley, Pac and Margo) mentally broke Cotto in their fights. Just the feeling I got those nights. I respect your opinion. I was in NO WAY insulting the guy either :good
the fact remains though that he hasnt been the same since that beating from margacheato. he used to believe he was the best fighter in the world, but that defeat has had its mental tole on cotto.
Adamek Never shyes away from any fighter (eg. didn't have to take Dawson, ditto for Arreola), is good at changing strategies on the fly, fights with minimum time off and could give a **** about someone talking smack. After his loss to Dawson, his career has flourished, arguably more so than Dawson's.
brain damage is irreversible and has actual physical/tangible/mechanical influence on brain chemistry and therefore their psyche. Basically EVERYTHING that makes a fighter who he is/was. IMO, the strongest of strongest mentally tough fighters are the ones who have gotten KTFO, brutally obliterated - and come back from those defeats without the fear. Its almost inhuman and 100% unnatural for that to be the case however. ie) One of the more sensitive examples in almost the extreme case is Diego Corrales. And look at the toll that that mental pressure took on him? Heartbreaking. This topic of "mental toughness" in boxing is very sensitive, especially when we are talking about VERY prideful fighters who may stick around the ring too long as a result of their mental determination.
The way Valero shook off the massive gash to go on and give DeMarco a whoopin was remarkable. It looked like a bleeding ***** on his forehead! He has the heart of a lion.
How about the fact that Cotto knows beforehand that Clottey, Mosley and Margo are made out of cast iron, and that he knows 100% that hes gonna have to go 12 rounds with them before even signing the contracts? The survival mode that he had to use with Margo and some with Clottey is just Cotto using his intelligence. His intelligence was on full display against Shane Mosley, it by no means is mental weakness. If he were to stay toe to toe with judah/mosley/margarito/clottey in the moments in which he was stunned, he'd only show that he was idiotic to employ an absurd strategy. Instead he showed extreme mental toughness by thinking through moments where he was mentally incoherent. :smoke real talk!
How about Khan? To come back from an embarassing 1st round knockout in your back yard takes some courage IMO.
Arthur Abraham Anyone that goes the remaining 6-7 rounds with a broken jaw in two places, swallowing over a gallon of his own blood has my respect. And he whooped Miranda, and came back to shut him up, and boy did he shut Edison up. :scaredas:
do you even know how much a gallon is. if he'd swallowed a gallon of blood, he would have literally no blood elsewhere. the average human adult male has 8-9 pints of blood.
ah so, by this comment you would agree that amir khan is one of the most mentally strong fighters? :think i think that you are confusing mentallity with heart. for instance, i think the likes of roy jones and hatton are mentally weak fighters because they never recovered fully from their first KO losses and they dont have the mental capacity to realise that their time is up and they should quit, but they have HUGE hearts and thats what they follow! same could be said for cotto at this point, what dya think? :think
