I believe Tyson`s fundamentals were better than Roy`s but which of these talented guys had the more natural gifts?

Jones was the more naturally talented, we saw how Tyson's natural talent was found wanting very shortly after leaving the team that brought him success.

I'd pick Charles of all time, but here I'd have to say Jones

When he first came up I thought Jones had the talent to be the best ever. Never really happened, but he had that kind of talent:calimero1:

Not sure there is a right answer? Jones was more athletic to be sure but Tyson’s compact powerful build is an awesome natural gift that allowed him to achieve maximum power IMO (and I am a detractor lol) as a HW that has never been seen before or since.

    I call it a wash

If my memory is correct, Roy Jones Sr started preparing his son to be a fighter about the exact same time that Junior was able to stand up. And then he made him train day and night well into his professional career. So was he naturally gifted or were specific skills developed from the time he was a toddler?

The only positive attention, mentorship, and direction in Tyson's life came because of boxing; specifically an eccentric old guy saw something and then invested a ton of time, effort, and other people's money into preparing Tyson to be a fighter. Was Tyson physically gifted enough to do that without that investment by Cus? Would he have been mentally focused enough without being taught how?

Mike was a naturally gifted fighter.

Roy was a naturally gifted boxer.

    It doesn't matter.

    What matters is this:

Lou Del Valle would have knocked out the Tokyo version of Mike more emphatically than what Buster did.

Charles would have done better v Jones at light heavy than he would have against Tyson at heavy.

Buster may have done better v Jones than Del Valle did and would have knocked him out at heavyweight.

D`Amato was one of the greatest trainers of all time, Roy`s dad didn`t know half of what D`Amato knew about boxing, we saw Mike without Cus and he started picking up L`s.
