Watch Roy Jones as an 18/19 year old amatuer, then try to argue with me.

Co sign.......no one that I've seen in the sport had Roy Jones talent and ability. For what Jones lacked in technical skills he more than made up for those short comings with his god given gifts.

Never seen those greats John but I don't doubt you.... I wish I had the chance to see those two guys in living color. Two of my favorite "old school" boxers from what is considered the "golden era" of the sweet science. You weren't in to photography back in the day John?

When you take into account how late he started and how brief his amateur career was and how he does things so naturally in the ring he's definately my choice. Its like a fish in water when hes in the ring. Although these days hes more like a whale. People like jones, leonard started quite young and had a very long amateur record its only natural they do things in the ring like second nature. Ive always said toney is more gifted as a fighter but jones is more atheletically gifted. There is a differance even most people dont agree w/me.

I know he's nowhere nearly as achieved as some guys on here, but what do you think about Edwin Valero?

He just struck me as the type of guy who was literally born to fight. He was gifted in the sense that he could do it all, he could box, he could bang, he had a chin by the looks, he had serious workrate and SERIOUS POP.

    I agree with you.:thumbsup

When I think of someone with a natural gift, I think of someone who could perform with minimal preparation.

If Toney had the dedication, and could lay off the twinkies, I think he would have led his contemporary's with ease.

On his day, James Toney is a great fighter.
