Interesting thread. Hard to say really as they have both been involved in a few negative fights. I think it is very hard to assess because often when Hopkins wasnt negative it was because he was against a smaller fighter he could dominate. But after the smoke has cleared it seems Ottke had a more impressive reign on papaer and beat Johnson when he was more experienced and at a weight that suited Johnson better. As you can see the fighters that had success after Ottke were always having that success in the same division or above
How many of the Ottke fights have been pure robberies? I have only seen two Ottke fights live on television (also the only two fights I´ve ever seen of him) that was against Robin Reid and Mads Larsen, both were robberies in my opinion.
I have seen many Ottke fights and sure he had some close fights, not being a puncher he didnt have anything other than speed and smarts to beat fighters, which he did. Alot is made of Ottke having close fights and because he had a few people start to cry robbery. If most of those decisions hadnt of gone to Ottke that would have been a robbery. G Johnson is another example of a fighter who has had alot of close fights where people scream robbery, but in most cases the right result was found if not every time. I admit that Reid was badly treated in his fight with Ottke. That was Ottke at the end of his career when he was starting to fade
Ottke wasn't really a negative fighter, he just got a few gift/home decisions (some were even scandalous) and got protected while beïng a beltholder. Hopkins has become a spoiler/fauler later in his career, so is a much more "negative" fighter.
never saw much Ottke footage I wouldnt say he is a spoiler he was a fast skileld guy very technical but no power and thats what hurt him Hopkins clinches holds throws little hes a spoiler also question everybody says Ottke wins all these robberies but I never saw him fight much has anybody accusing him seen the fights or are you just agreeing with common knowledge
Ottke always bore the **** out of me. Hopkins on the other hand has produced several memorable performances. I particularly enjoyed the Pavlik fight.
I've seen quite a few Ottke bouts, and although it's wildly exxagerated he should have had a few losses to his credit (worse than hometown decisions) while not often facing the best opposition possible. I think it's actually one of the reasons why Germany has such a bad name, while in the last few weeks I've seen at least 3 bad decisions on the 2 FNF cards.
Yeah I watched Ottke many times. Congratulations for being honest, theres so many tits that come on here claiming robberies for fights they never saw. Ottke did have many close fights but his resume is very good. In the Ottke vs Reid fight I was appauled at how Reid was treated and felt Reid deserved the victory, but many others I dont remember being outraged like I was in that fight.
