    Colin Jones v Kirkland Laing.
They fought twice, Jones was miles behind on the cards & won both by stoppage/KO in round 8.
Herol Graham was dancing his way to victory over Julian Jackson & lost by a late KO.

I came here to mention this fight. Probably the only time I've ever seen Pernell absolutely dominated. Those right hands and how Hurtado slumped was so "Emile/Peret" ish

Anyone remember Randall Bailey vs Mike Jones? Was losing the fight one sidedly until he dropped Mike Jones in round 10, and then KO'd him in round 11. Great comeback.

I heard it over the radio live with my okder brother. Then saw the rebroadcast in Jan 1975 on ABC's Wide World Of Sports.

Well they weren’t wrong. Which is why this fight belongs in this thread — I came here to post it but you had already gotten to it.

Sanchez thoroughly dominated the fight. He may not have lost any 30-second stretch until the KO, at least as I recall it.

That combo is what Victor Valle, who trained Ward for a time, called the reverse hook. Tap hook to the head, grenade hook to the liver. Other Valle fighters — chiefly Gerry Cooney — used it similarly.

I just rewatched Oleg Masakev vs Corey Sanders I had Masakev winning pretty much every round, and it looked like Masakev was on the verge of victory. And then Sanders out of nowhere explodes out with a left hook floors Maskaev, and then floors him one more time for the KO.

Certainly one of the most unexpected surprising KO's from a long way behind.

Weaver versus Tate takes the cake. All Big John had to do was continue using his immense size and strength to smother Hercules against the ropes for the final round, but his corner really blew it in telling him to move away. Tate was very disciplined at following his corner's instructions and plans. (Incidentally, when he won Ali's vacated WBA Title in South Africa over Coetzee, "experts" did not think he could win over the Championship Distance carrying 240 pounds. Jess Willard in Havana, Carnera and Big John are three of the very few heavyweights who proved they could do this while weighing that much. Upon being awarded the decision in Pretoria, he danced a pretty energetic knee pumping jig. Weaver also showed how well conditioned he was prior to Berbick.)

There are some honorable mentions I'd like to suggest. Although there was never really any doubt he'd get caught, Harold Volbrecht shutting out Pipino Cuevas conclusively for four rounds before he got caught by a typically massive hook from Pipino.

Alexis Arguello looked awful against Billy Costello until nailing him with a monstrous right. Alexis retired for the first time after this one, the end of his time as a world class boxer.

Carlos Palomino versus Davey Boy Green. One left hook from Carlos was all it took.

Nino Benvenuti versus Luis Manuel Rodriguez. Nino pulled this one out with the best punch of his career, a monstrous left hook. This one's different from the others I mentioned because Benvenuti one punched an ATG.

Jerry Quarry versus Lorenzo Zanon. Zanon was an extremely skilled boxer with a glass jaw. However, JQ was coming back from a layoff of two and a half years since Norton retired him. Jerry lost the first eight rounds of a ten rounder, but he hadn't lost his punch. In the ninth round, he caught Zanon. I think this was somewhat similar to Mercer versus Damiani.

Let's throw in Julian Jackson versus Herol Graham. This one forever stopped Bomber from becoming a world champion. For me, this one somewhat resembles Cuevas-Volbrecht.

The case is definitely there for Marciano-JJW I. Rocky would have taken it on the cards via SD if he'd swept the three Championship Rounds, but that's not the way it was going when Marciano dropped the bomb. Entering round 13, spectators were starting to compare JJW to the likes of Joe Gans.

Okay, so you probably heard Howard Cosell's voice over. But Bob Sheridan nailed the live call from ringside. He and everybody who commented on it after it was underway saw that Ali was going to be a fairly quick knockout winner by his standards as the rounds piled up. Yes, of course he was urinating blood for a few days afterwards, but Kinshasa was not among his hardest fights.
