I read it and I ask you how on earth was George the better ring general? How was his aggression “effective” and in what way did he deserve to be scored higher based on “effective” punching? These are the basis for scoring, I saw George rocked multiple times I saw him walked to the ropes and absolutely puzzled. It was almost a mismatch.

He actually wasn't even a bantamweight, he had been fighting as a featherweight but this was one of many accommodations the WBA made for their favored countries (South Africa, South Korea, Venezuela, Panama, etc.). One thing of note about this fight was ring magazines referencing it as another Dempsey-Tunney fight. The reason for that was because there was a long count involved in one of the rounds Anaya dropped Taylor. Interesting stuff.

That is interesting all of that.

Also I saw the fight on you tube and could not believe the level of violence! It was a fantastic war.

Arnie died in a motorcycle accident in 1982 IIRC

    ?
His last minute rope a dope + hold on and tangle method would have never worked without a paid in full referee.
The only reason his last minute method worked was because of the other half of Alis method was to hold on for dear life knowing the ref would never call a foul.

OK, I found highlights of this on YT. Quality isn't great, but it does confirm that Taylor was competitive and may even have been slightly ahead in the early part of the fight after scoring the KD. Anaya roared back after that for sure, though. Still, Taylor managed to hurt Anaya pretty badly in the ninth after gettng dropped repeatedly and nearly stopped in the eighth.

Anaya definitely had the better of things, but based on what's shown Taylor definitely had some moments prior to landing that wicked right hand in the 14th.

Man, I wish the full fight was around.

You're right he does look competitive but it would be fantastic if this fight was found in pristine condition and not disjointed. For example, the 3rd round is showing Taylor down for what the announcer says is "the first knockdown of the fight". Well I never read anything about a 3rd round knockdown. Continuity is what is needed in this film. And it looks like it was a good contest.

I haven’t read through the entire thread, but Klitschko / Brewster came immediately to mind
