Well, to be honest, I've always been a bit more impressed with Louis' performance than Ali's, but that's an "all things considered" type opinion with me and not only punchstat related.
I don't know the compubox stats for most of them, but similar to how Muhammad Ali looked amazing against Cleveland Williams, Roy Jones looked breath-taking against guys like Percy Harris, Vinny Pazienza, and especially Bryant Brannon. Floyd Mayweather against Arturo Gatti. I really don't take Compubox all that seriously, anyway.
I read the fight had to be stopped when both fighters ,unable to see were staggering ,and reeling about ,blinded by their own blood!Apparently the referee had to change his shirt three times and the canvas was slippery with gobbets of gore, both accused the other of wearing loaded gloves, and an object seen on the ring floor ,first thought to have been a bolt ,turned out to be a tin whistle Griffo kept in his ring tights for luck.Neither man was the same after this epic encounter and Palmer didnt engage in another contest for nearly a week,Griffo also took time to recover from the affects of the duel and ,swore of the demon drink for several hours.
Really, that is pityful. When a man is standing in front of you for 12 three minutes rounds and you can only land 5 a round then that really is something.
Styles make fights. Jones Jr.... Mayweather.... Whitaker.... fast enough to score at any time and also avoid a solid blow afterwards. Throw them in the ring with the likes of Gatti and Trinidad, who need a viable target to be successful, and you get these kinds of fights.
Is it just me that finds it hard to believe Foreman landed even half of the 220ish punches that compubox suggest from the Moorer fight
You got to take compubox/punchstat numbers with a grain of salt but, acording to compubox Ward out landed Dawson 155/418 37% to 29/187 16%. In round 5 Ward 14/37 38%, Dawson 1/19 5%. R7. 13/39 33% to 0/20, and R10 14/30 47% to 0/12.
I've never counted it myself but Joe Louis vs Max Baer would have to be incredibly one sided Joe's way. In 4 rounds Louis barely missed a punch as Maxies head snapped back again and again from whatever Joe threw. An insane arse whippoing.
