That probably includes Mayweather and Leonard too (a few of the posters on here seem to despise Leonard personally).

I think, at the time he took them, LaMotta beat more ranked contenders than any middleweight. Ever.

Now, Burley didn't do that kind of work. But Archie Moore named him the best fighter he ever saw. Hiawatha Gray named him the best fighter he ever saw. Ray Arcel named him among the best he ever saw. Eddie Futch named him among the best he ever saw. Angelo Dundee refused to name a GOAT, but when pushed, he listed several contenders and the list included Burley.

Great fighters for conflicting reasons (not that LaMotta is short on admiration or Burley is short on top men beaten!) named overrated - probably the most interesting picks we've seen Bokay.

We've done LaMotta to detach, McGrain, and his list includes a lot of losses to the ranked MWs he met and some of the best wins are quite disputed. He also lost to a couple of WWs.

I really wonder if he beat more ranked contenders than any other MW. Do you mean ranked MW contenders by the Ring?

Burley also swapped wins and losses with the top contenders of his day, and to justify the high ranking not only at MW but also p4p that I've seen him get here, you have to go very much on what Futch and Arcel said. But by that same token Dempsey would perhaps be the top HW ever.

Yeah MW contenders ranked by Ring. Nobody beat more I don't think.

I think Dempsey is irrefutably great also.

If you fight loads of top guys, and if you're fighitng, sometimes, 3 times in two months, you always lose. Everyone. Anyone.

I'm dubious on Burley tbh but I'm giving him then benefit of the doubt because the little film we have shows someone similar in style to Jones Jr who everyone considers one of the best ever, plus we know Burley has victories over the likes of Moore and Williams who are undeniably great themselves.
