He definetly doesnt look the most technically skilled, I mean put a highlight reel of PBF or even someone like Duran and skillwise they would look better. Its not hard to see though that he was a pretty damm complete fighter, chin, stamina, aggresion, that combination of speed, power & explosiveness and great skill to boot. A complete fighter, reminds me of Duran at LW except this guy is more explosive.
why do i keep reading these threads...its probably cause i like seeing the thread starter get hammered...
I wanst implying that anyone said he was invincible, however most would favour him over anyone on a 10/10 matchup. I however would favour SRL at WW and Hagler at MW.
I like the part how the five fighters you categorise as better all borrowed from his style - In particular Ali - Who wanted to be Sugar Ray... Greatest welterweight of all time bar none, and a top 5 middle of all time and the term pound for pound was invented around his abilities...
[ reminds me of Duran at LW except this guy is more explosive.[/quote] That says a lot. A more explosive Duran at light weight!!! Can you imagine that. I say he beats Leonard and Haglar, but he could lose to Hearns @ WW as he was hittable and Hearns power......
Who really gives a ****? Being a great boxer isn't just about skill, and being highly skilled doesn't make you great either.
Have to remember that SRR was his best at WW, we can only imagine by these fight clips how good he was at that weight. To be honest, his domination of Joey Maxim would have been one of his best displays of boxing had he won. Actually considering the circumstances, he did win imo.
Ali, Louis, Patterson said he the greatest #4# of all time but what do they know compared to some of the posters here.
