    Exactly right.
I doubt many actually take into consideration that what footage there is of Robinson is mostly as an oldish fighter, years past his best and several pounds above his natural weight.
They compare that footage to modern fighters who have the benefit of weight training, strength and conditioning coaches, steroids and plenty of rest between fights, all of which Robinson never had.
And yet, he still outclasses 95% of fighters on film, irrespective of era.

I mean, how difficult was it for him to mentally 'get up' for his 144th fight?

The closest to prime Robinson I ever saw on film was him as a welter fighting a guy called Jean Stock.
He looked absolutely fantastic in that footage.

    Please...

Brilliant power in BOTH hands, speed second to none, granite chin, excellent stamina, fantastic workrate, silky smooth on his feet... this guy was the whole package. So fluent with his combinations, just amazing to watch.

Robinson is the best fighter I've ever seen.

Ray Robinson is the greatest fighter to ever step through the ropes Period.

Fought more fights than anyone in anyones top 10.

    Multiple fights with:

    LaMotta
    Fullmer
    Basillio
and many others throughout his long career overwhelm just about any other resume except Ali's.

    Ray > All.

No1 has seen some proper extensive footage of SRR in his prime , but just a look at his record tells you - in that era , fighters , and i mean the greatest of fighters , lost some because of how often they fought and they never got much chance to study oponents etc. But Robinson lost just once in his prime , and to a larger man , whom he beat 4 times before moving up in weight and then beating again. And just look at the fighters he was beating on such a busy shedule. And then he moved up in weight and fought in a golden era of 160-pounders and emerged as the best of the pack , until the age fator was too much to overcome.

    As a fighter -

Hand speed was amazing , and punching power was great in either hand , could punch on the retreat aswell as going forward , precision was of the highest order. He must be one of the very very best attaking and offensive fighters ever. His calculated attaks to head and body mean , imo that no defensive-minded boxer would have a chance against him. His defense is underrated aswell , his great footwork and in-and-out movement when on the attack was a great defense in itself . And one other thing , one of the very best finishers ever .

Jkdking - you said some shiit here

Do you think any of them fighters could beat a prime robinson apart from burley? (even burley i make robbo favourite). My knowledge on the other isn't great how would you see the fights going?

The little i know of williams was that he was a great boxer but wasn't the best puncher, also was his best days not over about 1945 when he was a middleweight, at this time robinson was just coming into his prime at welter.

Like i say i'm not got great knowledge on the subject and your opinion on the fights would be greatly appreciated :good

That says a lot. A more explosive Duran at light weight!!! Can you imagine that. I say he beats Leonard and Haglar, but he could lose to Hearns @ WW as he was hittable and Hearns power......[/quote]

Yea, I was thinking it cant be because Duran really was an animal at LW. However having a look at that, you can tell he had power, speed and can deliver in such a short space.

I think he is a more complete fighter than SRL and if SRL decides to get tough he would get KO'd. However if SRL plays it cute enough and just try to box for 12 rounds, he would last the distance and win on points. SRL speed, jab and footwork will pull through. At MW I dont think he could hurt Hagler and Hagler will beat him in a brutal close fight. Prime Hagler that is. Hearns wouldnt be able to keep SRR off him, SRR had better offensive skills than SRL and more power, he would KO Hearns sooner than SRL will. I would pick Hearns over any WW in history not possesing a good enough punch with a chin but SRR has all those + alot more.
