Most over rated fighters ever.

Most overrated fighters have been current or recent fighters. Fighters that fight two times a year, come in the ring out of shape, don't fight the best competition, have glaring weaknesses even in fundamentals, etc. I don't know why some people bring out many old school fighters, but don't mention some of the obvious fighters of late.

Tyson, Ali, Sweet Pea, Floyd, Duran, Hagler, Foreman, Fraizer, Joe Louis, Marciano, Hearns, Holyfield, Lewis, Sugar Ray Robinson, Sugar Ray Leonard, Sugar Shane Mosley, Oscar De la Hoya, Trinidad, Hopkins. And also anyone else with a big name that gets "mentioned" way too much. Please, they were decent fighters but not worth all the praise they get. Totally overated, they all are.

They basically all just got lucky their whole careers.

 

Hearn's achilles heel was his weak chin. How in the hell can he be called an "all time great" with all the trips to the canvas he made in his career, and being KO'ED as well? If he had a good chin, then it would be very different.

Tyson (based on what he's actually achieved - the age he was when he became undisputed champ really doesn't mean that much.

RJJ - (I don't care how flashy or how good he looked, between 1998 and now he's achieved nowt, apart from the Ruiz win). He's an athletic phenom, but certainly not one of the greatest p4p fighters ever.

And, as much as I hate to say it, Roberto Duran.

 

Lennox Lewis. Great fighter, yes, but not as great as many suggest. Not even the best HW of his era - that's Holyfield. He's the only top level HW champ to be starched twice early by second raters when he held the title, and the best fighters he fought - Holyfield and Tyson - were years past their primes when he beat them.

 

Zakman - You got it all wrong about Lewis. Yes, he was knocked out twice by huge punches. But he also completely dominated most of his opponents. Holyfield's sole win against Bowe was by an extremely slim margin, one point on one scorecard while he lost the two other fights clearly. He lost to a reluctant, undersized Moorer and struggled with Bobby Chyz, ancient versions of Holmes and Foreman. Holyfield would have fought 12 hard rounds against Golota or Grant, fighters that were torched by Lewis. Lennox was clearly the best HW of his era.

Sorry, but I totally disagree. Holyfield fought the best fighters of the era, of course he lost more. And the so-called loss to Moorer was greatly disputed at the time - it was a close decision that could have gone either way. Holyfield - without the natural size advantage Lewis enjoyed - fought on even terms with Bowe in their fights (don't forget their first fight was a give and take war, and in the third fight he had him on the canvas).

Fact is, Holyfield has victories over two of the other great fighters in the era - Tyson and Bowe - when they were formidable opponents. Lewis does not - he only fought Holyfield himself, and particularly Tyson when they were past their best, and he didn't fight Bowe at all. And, in taking on all the best of the era, Holyfield was never humiliatingly KTFO like Lewis was by second-rate fighters. THAT is what makes the difference. Holyfield tends to be quite underrated by many fans, Lewis tends to get overrated.

 

You blow my mind by saying Ali was overrated.
