Not flaming, but care to explain why? I don't think there's a credible argument for him not being all-time top 5 p4p, and there is a strong case for him being #1.
Fair comments Calzaghe did take too many easy fights and wasted his talent a bit, his run of fights from 02 up until the Lacy fight in 06 is especially bad imo even if there was a lack of big names at 168 at the time. Unfortunately for Calzaghe he came along at a bad time the Eubank, Benn, Watson and Collins era was just ending in the Uk when he was coming up and just after he retires the super six tournament pops up. If he was a few years older or younger I would bet his resume would look a lot more impressive.
Agreed. That's why i consider him overrated and like the other guy said an 'underachiever'. I mean with the division being so bad after Jones and co departed it, there was still nothing stopping Joe going after the other belts. Holding another belt or all of them as oppose to just the WBO belt would of done him no harm. Fish-eyes should shoulder some blame for being too safe with Joe for too long, but Joe himself should of demanded "i want this fight and that fight" and pushed Allegedly into getting them for him. The period you mentioned between 02-06, Joe should of shown more desire and really been pushing for the other belts imo. I wonder if W.a.r.r.e.n at the time seen the Lacy scrap as a **** or bust fight for Joe, after years of playing it safe? It makes me think how much he believed in Calzaghe prior to Lacy. I also wonder if Joe regrets not going to the States sooner? I don't blame him for cashing out with Hopkins and Jones, but i like most don't value those results too highly.
p4p he is 1 but he is not the BEST fighter as p4p imo has to do with skill but being The best also has to do with impact and resume.
