I see many threads about top heavyweight punchers and it almost always has variations on the usual suspects .. what I'd like to do is discuss the most under rated huge punchers ... guys forgotten, over looked or discounted based on checkered careers ..

First choice , Mike Weaver ... Weaver flattened and ruined John Tate w one shot, destroyed a prime Coetzee with another , had a prime Holmes hanging on for his life more than once and wrecked Carl Williams w a single shot in a come from behind win ... Weaver was an all time great power puncher .. more to come ..

Joe Louis might just be my pick. Most people dismiss him when talking about pure power, but I think that's ridiculous. Just watch some of those highlight reels. Sure, his technical acumen obviously massively helps, but this is a guy who lifts 240lbs toughmen off the floor with a single left hook. Or stops genuine giants in their tracks with just a snappy jab. He's certainly up there in pure power for me as well as skillset.

The other ones that I'd pick are Deontay Wilder (I think he's top 5, most people don't) and Max Schmeling. Max stopped a helluva lot of durable guys, but never gets a rep as being a good puncher. I find it weird personally.

You've mentioned one in your opening post. There's every chance Coetzee hit harder than Weaver best shot for best shot. The guy was a terror with the right hand.

Knoetze has to be up there, some of his full leverage shots were nasty.

Frank Bruno is rarely mentioned. For some reason Liston doesn’t get his due either. Along w Louis and Marciano. Seen several top ten punchers lists w out Marciano and that’s mind blowing to me.

There are no overlooked "monster" punchers at heavyweight IMO.

Andre Lenglet never gets a mention when it comes to power. He sounds like he was awful but he could hit. He was one of the three men who knocked out Al McCoy, the first being very early in his pro career, the other being Joe Louis. It's weird, because he had at least a good jaw, good power punching but lost loads  he must have been really, really bad.

Well, for example, Billy Conn doesn't say Louis hit him the hardest, but Ray Actis and I think on balance Actis punched harder than Louis...for sheer force, blasphemy as it is. BTW...I still live in hope of finding Ron Richards' blowout of Actis in Sydney.

Anyway, I'm sure there's dozens of monster punchers who wont make the 'lists' because punching power is so difficult to quantify.

    Actis was not a heavyweight.

I'm sure there are many overlooked punchers at middleweight and light-heavyweight.

We had a local heavyweight, Jeff Sims whom was rumored
to be a "monster puncher'. He almost cut Ali's lip off
    in a sparring session.

All I know about him is that he's a Sullivan victim, couldn't even say what code.

What's the legend of his punching power?

Wow, just read that he was a Nazi sympathiser and got the jail for it no less, seems to have died there.
