ANYBODY who knows real boxing knows Muhammed Ali was one of the most overrated boxers of all time, and for fans to continue to name him the best ever is an insult for the sport. Yes he was the best ever. At yapping his mouth. Muhammed Ali, was only charismatic. He did beat a few of the greats but how good was he? Not clearly enough in anyway. Tell me somebody who is more overrated.
Ali - skill wise - is overrated to this day, but just a tiny bit, definitely not as much as you are saying. You know what? As a matter of fact, no, he isn't overrated. I tried to find a reason, but couldn't.
i respectfully disagree but i know arguments can be made to that effect. while ali's talent and resume are rarely in doubt, he was missing so many key parts of his game (ie: in-fighting) that based on skill set he was not nearly as complete as a duran or robinson. still he did soooo much with what he had, he needs to be near the top.
Well I hope that those that think Ali is overrated don't say that Wlad and Vitali rank higher than him...
Ali is a guy I surprisingly enough find it a bit difficult to rate. In terms of a P4P list, I tend to rate guys like Duran, Mickey Walker, Greb, Langford and co slightly higher than I perhaps should because of what they did across a number of weight ranges, no don't all of those names are near the top anyway. I think I'm guilty of under-rating the HW's because they don't have the opportunity to beat up on far bigger guys and a number of great fighters through a number of weight classes. Ali's resumé is undoubtedly out-standing though, and he was a wonderful fighter to which, if not as you say as complete as others.
